The powwow was held for Native American Heritage Month and to honor our veterans. Attendees enjoyed dancing, singing, frybread, and shopping from Native vendors. Thank you to everyone who helped with the event and to all of our Greenwood Family in attendance!

Not mentioning any names (Dr. Snodgrass), but it is someone’s birthday (Dr. Snodgrass)! MS school choir and other classes were so kind to serenade him today!! Happy Birthday to the birthday guy (Dr. Snodgrass)! Not that we are supposed to say anything about whomever (Dr. Snodgrass) had a birthday...
What a fun Halloween it was at Greenwood! K-5th grade showed off their amazing costumes during the Halloween parade, followed by the Seniors performing a skit and choreographed dance to Thriller. We hope everyone had a fun, safe, and spooky Halloween!
The Debate Blue Jays continue to excel this year. Over 40 schools from across Missouri competed in this year’s Willard Invitational last weekend. Jamie Alford and Eleanor Hilotin now have a season win/loss record of 12-1 in Policy Debate. They had defeated teams including Pembroke Hill, Rock Bridge, and Glendale on a 12-win streak before losing a semi-final match and finishing 3rd in the competition. Jamie also placed 4th in Informative Speaking with almost 60 students in the field. Eleanor and Minal Khan also finished as semi-finalists in Original Oratory.
In the novice division held at Willard Middle School, Gyan Grewal and Ethan Duff advanced to the quarterfinals and finished 4th in Novice Policy Debate. Gyan and Isabel Herrin also were semi-finalists in Extemporaneous Speaking.
The team will be back in action next weekend at Republic High School. Go Blue Jays!
Mrs. Flanders' 2nd grade got into the Halloween spirit with some pumpkin observation! Students were able to measure the height and circumference of different pumpkins, comparing the ways pumpkins are the same and different (height, circumference, color, shape, etc.) They were also able to count pumpkin seeds and group them by tens.
The Scholar Bowl Team competed in its second match of the year on Thursday. The Republic Halloween Tournament is always a great start to the season! Students who competed were:
Seniors: Keerti, Lilly, Ansley
Sophomores: Mary, Steven, Minal
Freshmen: Kelby, Elif, Harper, Ethan, Tristan, Kai.
Kai placed 5th for individual points and the JV team finished 4th in their division. Great job Bluejays!
Greenwood Cross Country team had Districts today. All of Greenwood’s runners pushed themselves and had great performances, with 3 of them qualifying for State! Carson Little, Quana Alaimo, and Nyah Dogwiler. The State meet is next Saturday in Columbia. Go BlueJays!
Students learned about Diwali in art this week, creating Lotus Mandalas to hang on the walls for celebration! Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a Hindu religious festival that typically lasts five days and celebrates the triumph of good over evil. A very Happy Diwali to everyone that celebrates!
K-5th grade enjoyed a Safety Seminar this week, learning all about how to be safe and responsible in different aspects of life. Presentations included fire safety, cyber/digital safety, personal safety, and bicycle safety. Way to go Bluejays!
Ann Willingham (Keller), class of 1952, spoke to Greenwood 7th grade Public Affairs classes on October 26. She recounted her experiences at Greenwood as a student from K to 12th grade. Her class was one of the last participants in May Day celebrations, which ended in 1943. She spoke of Greenwood as a family. Thank you, Ann! We appreciated your time!
On Tuesday, our third graders had a blast carving pumpkins in the classroom. Parents got to join in on the fun too!
It was a perfect day for a Kindergarten field trip to the pumpkin patch!
Students in Mr. Duff’s Earth Science class spent the day at Ha Ha Tonka State Park, learning about many of the geological features of Missouri’s karst topography. Karst landscapes are created when limestone has been dissolved by the action of water. With the aid of the park’s naturalist, students viewed and learned about sinkholes, caves, a huge natural bridge, bluffs, and Missouri's 12th largest spring. In addition, they spent time exploring the ruins of a turn-of-the-century stone castle which overlooks the Lake of the Ozarks. Students had an awesome day learning about the Ozark's landscapes!
Our presenters for our Secondary Safety Seminar were tremendous, we appreciate what they do in our community and for their efforts yesterday!
Thank you to our wonderful volunteers and presenters yesterday for the Secondary Safety Seminar! We appreciate the wisdom shared with our students!
