Congratulations to the Greenwood Girls Swim Team, who will be sending more girls to state than ever before! Reese Moore qualified in almost every event, but will swim the 50 free and 100 free at state, Katelyn Schaller will swim the 100 back at state, and Sofia Sechler finished 5th at Districts this past weekend, which qualified her for the one meter diving at state. Third grade has been learning about the Three States of Matter. They learned the vocabulary, identified examples of each, and learned how the particles move in each state. They concluded their unit by making Root Beer Floats! Vanilla Ice Cream= Solid, Root Beer= Liquid, and the Foam= Gas. It was a BLAST!
The LPA Assembly was a blast! There was a performance by the Greenwood Pep Band and the cheerleaders, followed by announcements of the winners for each spirit day this week. Boys and girls basketball, girls swimming, debate team, scholar bowl, cheerleaders, and JForce then gave updates on how their seasons are going; we are so glad we have students that are involved! The King candidates, Nicholas Burri, Trenton Zarechi, and Griffin Litherland, were then introduced, escorted by their awesome mothers. The winner will be announced Saturday night at the dance. Finally, we ended the event with a cup stack and knock-out competition amongst grade levels and a singing of the Greenwood alma mater. We thank all of our students for their participation in LPA week! Go Bluejays!
The Greenwood Band extends a hearty thank you to the Music Boosters Organization for funding 2 new mellophones! The melodious tones of our French horn players will now be heard loud and clear at our pep band performances!
Greenwood students got into "character" for Dress Like a Teacher Day! We saw some Mr. Bonds, Dr. Hammerschmidts, Coach Percivals, and many more. It's great to see such awesome participation during spirit week, and we hope everyone is excited for LPA!

Celebrating Greenwood’s Accomplishments at the Springfield Winter Classic
Greenwood Debate participated in one of the largest invitational tournaments of the year jointly hosted by Springfield Central and Glendale this past weekend. Over 35 schools participated from across Missouri – including several large schools from the Kansas City area – participated in the Springfield Winter Classic.
Jamie Alford continued to show that she is one of the state’s best performers in International Extemp – earning 4th place out of over 65 competitors in the event. Jamie also placed 3rd in Informative Speaking. She and her partner, Eleanor Hilotin, also won debates against Lee’s Summit West, Liberty, and North Kansas City before losing a close 2-1 decision against Willard in the quarterfinals. Jamie and Eleanor end their regular season with an impressive preliminary win-loss record of 18-2 on the year. Also advancing to semi-finals in large individual event fields were Mary Gabriel in US Extemp and Fatima Aslam in International Extemp.
The first-year competitors participated at Glendale High School and also proved very successful. Marcus Ryan and Ethan Duff dominated novice US Extemp with 1st and 2nd place, respectively. Marcus and Ethan also advanced to the semi-finals of novice Policy Debate. Also, Carys Argueta and Gabriel Parada placed fourth in novice Policy Debate. Amore Penella and Anna Le both advanced to semi-finals of individual events – Amore in Informative Speaking and Anna in International Extemp.
