The Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest celebrates handwriting and showcases student’s manuscript and cursive skills. Greenwood Laboratory School grade-level winners qualify to move on to state, then national levels, competing to be named one of nine Grand National Grade-Level Champions. Each national champion receives a cash prize and a special trophy! Mr. Pfeil is pleased to report that the following students will be going to Columbia for the State National History Day Championship: Abigail Ryan, Anya Soni, Zain Saquer, and Josie Matkowski will be performing a skit entitled "The Lewis and Clark Expedition: Crossing into a New Frontier" Laila Ozturk wrote a 2nd place history paper (9 pages as an 8th grader) entitled "From Feudalism to Mercantilism: An Economic Frontier" Gracelyn Rothwell (one of our first-year students) won 2nd place for her individual exhibit entitled "The Rise of Education and Literacy: A Frontier in African-American Slave History If you see these students, please congratulate them! Dr. Melinda Hammerschmidt’s first grade class collaborated with Dr. Chloe Bolyard’s ELE 410, Teaching and Learning in the Elementary Classroom, students who surveyed, planned, and conducted small group lessons. The teacher candidates visited today to meet students and get to know them using icebreaker activities. In May, the ELE410 students will return to Greenwood to teach students a first-grade social studies learning standard lesson!
